Where’s the middle?

Posted by theaveragecarter on February 26, 2010

I’ll go ahead and say it.  I don’t like Sarah Palin.  I respect her for being a mom, wife, etc, etc.  But everything publicly about her is utter b.s.  And to hear people praise her for saying this or saying that…well that’s great.  But would you really want her as your president?  I don’t think posting your problems with the media or the government on your Facebook page is appropriate for someone who had/has aspirations of taking the second highest office in the nation.  But there’s enough media out there about her, for her, against her all over the place.  I’m not going to keep going down that road today.  But she is part of the problem with what is going on here.

There is NO middle.  You’re either this or that.  You either want this or you don’t.  Well that’s not how it works.   Read the rest of this entry »

Blind leading the blind

Posted by theaveragecarter on February 5, 2010

I’ve often expressed my distaste for news media outlets and partisan politics, but it seems the old adage is true, “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”   It makes me scrutinize the educational system in our country to the highest levels.  I mean, to see and hear adults blatantly lie, spread rumors, boast, and cheat just in politics and media (not including all of the other facets of life, blows my mind.  Grown, sometimes very aged, people acting like schoolyard children.  That trickles down to the general populace who then Read the rest of this entry »

…5 Days Later

Posted by theaveragecarter on January 22, 2010

Wow.  I skipped out on Wednesday’s post this week, as I’m sure you noticed.  Sorry about that.  I was a little preoccupied and couldn’t really get down what I wanted to write in time to post.  So today’s post will hopefully cover the mid-week and the week-end posts.  I’m feeling a little socio-political today and I wanted to talk about something that’s been on my mind for a while.  Class struggle.  It didn’t help that I saw the Book of Eli yesterday either.  So it could potentially get a bit thick in here.

Class struggle is the central theme in Karl Marx’s works regarding communism and is central to his theoretical ideals in dealing with capitalism.  He breaks Read the rest of this entry »

Not that kind of “Change”

Posted by theaveragecarter on October 15, 2009

Today is the second day of potentially “fun” topics.  As was the case yesterday, please keep the posts civil and respectful.  Several people have messaged me and emailed me saying that they were ready to see my thoughts on politics.  I had to LOL a little inside when I read their messages.  Anyway…I hope you enjoy the post, and please feel free to post comments.  They can be anonymous.

I have always been a die hard follower of politics mainly because of my love for history.  I followed half-heartedly through the Clinton years and became a more fervent follower through the Bush years.  I don’t know what I’m looking forward to in the Obama years yet though.  But I do know that my outlook from my teen years and into early adulthood is pretty similar to what it was back then.  But it doesn’t feel like it should be. Change (part 1 of 5)

Posted by theaveragecarter on October 12, 2009

Today I’m starting my first 5 part series on change.  This past week has been an interesting one in the things I’ve seen and read, and I figured I’d try out this daily post thing to see what it’s all about.  Hope you enjoy reading, and please discuss in the comments if you’d like.

“The business of business is business.”

Posted by theaveragecarter on September 25, 2009

michaelscottThis is a really good place to start with a second post…well first without the introduction.  The title is a quote from Milton Friedman, a Nobel Prize winning economist.  The opposite side of this quote, as noted by Huffington post blogger and CEO of “Work It, Mom!” Nataly Kogan, is that business is above anything else personal.  I tend to agree with her.  Business is, if anything else, very personal to everyone involved.
