About

Me 2006Welcome to The Average Carter.  My name is Carter Lewis.  I am from Pensacola, Fl.  I am currently a self-employed nightclub dj. I started djing full-time to pursue my education and attained  a master’s degree in Public History from the University of West Florida in 2007. Unfortunately I have no teaching experience and there are only a handful of museums in my area.  So I decided to redirect my energy to reading and writing. I love to research history and put pieces together. My scholastic areas of interest are Colonial Exploration and Atlantic Expansion, Cultural Anthropology, and Political Economics.  For hobbies I like to work on genealogy, sightsee at local parks and the national seashore, and read.  Most of my reading deals with political economic theory, religion, or culture.  However, I am getting into a little fiction reading lately. And of course I love music.

(From my first blog post) I am, of course, The Average Carter.  I am average in that I am probably what most people would consider an average individual, at least in my region.  I went to an average school, I had an average upbringing, I kept average grades, had the average first marriage and separation, and finally have made an average amount of money, and done average jobs.  Well, you often hear the saying, “smarter than the average bear” or at least something along those lines.  I prefer to say “smarter than the average Carter.” It’s just something that I’ve been stuck with for a while.  And when I decided to start writing I couldn’t think of anything much better or more appropriate than that. Because honestly…how many Carters do you know?

My attempt with this blog isn’t to advertise to an average reader or to get anyone to adhere to my ramblings.  I’m not going to be posting pictures or articles for you to comment on.  I will simply be saying what’s on my mind, and I’ll hope that you’ll take the opportunity to comment back. Commenting will be open, and I won’t make any plans for registering or anything like that unless the spam filter starts to fill up. This also won’t be a debate forum or anything like that.  Flaming and harassing comments won’t be tolerated and will be deleted and IPs blocked.  Aside from that, free speech is the only requirement. I hope you enjoy and will participate. Thank you.
