Resolutions…

I’m not a huge believer in resolutions.  I mean, if you can say that you want to accomplish such and such goal in 2012, why wait for a new year?  Why not just start when ever you recognize that you have something to work towards?  I think we all see the beginning of the year as that new chapter.  We realize that we weren’t happy with this aspect or that.  We say that we want to be smarter, healthier, more independent, more cooperative, etc.  What better time to start then now?

My goal is to get my weight back down to a manageable level.  I don’t have anything to hide, and I’m not ashamed to say it…when I made the decision to start losing, I weighed 198 lbs.  My goal is to lose about 15-20 pounds.  That’s not a whole lot for some people, but it is for me.  It’s starting to take a toll on my knees and I can feel myself getting tired a lot sooner.  So that’s my goal.

I’ve set it as a 6 month goal.  My plan is to control the amount of food I eat and to exercise moderately when I can during the week.  I’m cutting back on all of the crappy food I’m not supposed to eat and taking smaller portions of food when I do eat.  I set the goal at 20 pounds in 6 months with a weight check every week and an evaluation of my overall progress every month.  That includes making adjustments to diet and exercise.

It’s not a perfect plan or goal.  And it’s not exactly a resolution.  But I need to get into better shape.  It’s pretty bd when I want to take a picture with my son, but I have to angle my head just right to hide the fact that I have an extra chin hiding out under there somewhere.  Hopefully in 6 months I’ll be a little slimmer and will be able to set a new goal for the remainder of the year.  Here’s hoping!
